Reg Ryan is the Owner and Managing Director of Ryans Turf, a proudly family-owned turf farm built on hard work, resilience and a willingness to take opportunity when it appears.

Reg’s journey into the turf industry began at just 15 years old. After leaving school without a clear plan, he seized an opportunity when his parents’ lease agreement with a local turf company ended. With turf in the ground and a decision to make, Reg secured his first contract supplying and installing 8,000m² of kikuyu to his former school. Armed with a hired walk-behind cutter, a few mates, and his dad’s LandCruiser, he worked from dark to dark to complete the job — unknowingly laying the foundation for what would become a lifelong career in turf production and business leadership.

After completing a seven-year mechanical apprenticeship and refining his technical and operational skills, Reg returned to the family farm and worked his way up from the ground level. Through hands-on leadership, operational improvements and strategic reinvestment, he expanded production, secured rights to premium turf varieties including Palmetto, Sapphire, Empire and Kenda Kikuyu, and modernised equipment and infrastructure.

In 2017, Reg took a significant leap of faith, purchasing the 165-acre family farm and investing heavily into machinery and growth.

Today, Ryans Turf farms over 110 acres of premium turf varieties, employs a dedicated team of full-time and casual staff, and operates a modern fleet of trucks, tractors and auto-stackers. Under Reg’s leadership, the business continues to grow through innovation, structured systems and a commitment to quality.
